Hood Warfare 2 Crashing, Audio and Update Fixes

Which fix matches your problem?

Start with the row that matches what you see. Each first check comes from Trapstar Games, Steam Support or Microsoft, and the last column says which. Player reports are labeled as such in the sections below.

What should you do when an update does not show up?

The patch 1.0.1.4 notes say you may need to fully exit Steam to get the update, and point to Exit Steam in the top-left Steam menu. Trapstar Games gave players the same answer in a Steam thread when patch 1.0.10 went out on October 12. Closing the Steam window is not enough, because Steam keeps running in the background.

The notes also tell you where to check: the version number sits in the bottom-right corner of the menu. The patch 1.0.1.4 page lists what that version changes.

  1. Open the Steam menu in the top-left corner of the Steam window and choose Exit.
  2. Start Steam again and wait for Hood Warfare 2 to finish updating.
  3. Launch the game and read the version in the bottom-right corner of the menu.
  4. If it still shows an older number, repeat the full exit before changing anything else.

What can you try when Hood Warfare 2 keeps crashing?

Update first. Patch 1.0.1.4 says it fixed various join issues and crashes, without listing them. After patch 1.0.10, players in a Steam thread reported losing the connection to the host and full-lobby errors, and the developer said a follow-up was coming.

If crashes continue on 1.0.1.4, Steam Support’s own first step for a crashing game is to verify its files, using the steps below. Steam notes that one or more files may fail to verify and that this is normal for local configuration files. Do not run the check while another heavy task, such as a virus scan, is running.

Check the hardware side as well: the Steam listing requires a 64-bit system and DirectX 12. Compare your PC with the system requirements.

Players also report matches stalling or ending when the host leaves. That is a hosting problem and not a crash on your PC; the multiplayer guide explains those reports.

  1. Restart your computer and open Steam.
  2. In your Library, right-click Hood Warfare 2, or click the gear icon on its Library page.
  3. Choose Properties, then open the Installed Files tab.
  4. Click Verify integrity of game files and let the check finish. It can take several minutes.

Why is there no sound?

Patch 1.0.1.4 lists a no-audio issue as fixed and gives the step: go to settings and select an audio output device. Pick the headset or speakers you actually use, then return to a match.

The notes do not say where in settings the option sits. The patch 1.0.1.4 page lists the other fixes in that update.

Why is voice chat not working?

Voice chat arrived in patch 1.0.10, so make sure the game is updated. You can talk to the whole lobby or only your team. Push-to-talk is on by default: hold T while speaking. The patch notes say settings also offer open mic.

If the game still does not pick up your microphone, check Windows. Microsoft’s instructions for Windows 11 are below; Steam games count as desktop apps.

  1. Open Start > Settings > Privacy & security, then choose Microphone under App permissions.
  2. Turn on Microphone access.
  3. Turn on Let apps access your microphone.
  4. Turn on Let desktop apps access your microphone.

What if the anti-cheat kicks you or blocks the game?

Trapstar Games added an anti-cheat system in patch 1.0.10, and the Steam store page names it as kernel-level Easy Anti-Cheat. Patch 1.0.1.4 fixes issues with it kicking players falsely, so update before anything else.

On Steam Deck and Linux the picture is different: one Steam reviewer reports the game no longer starting on a Deck after the anti-cheat arrived. The controller and Steam Deck page explains why. To report an actual cheater, use Report in the pause menu.

Why did your preset or progress not save?

Patch 1.0.10 fixes loadout presets not saving, player selection not saving and progression not always showing at the end of a match. Rebuild the preset on the current version and play one match to confirm it holds.

Some players still report levels or unlocks resetting after that patch; the review roundup counts those reports. No developer note addresses them yet. If it happens to you, note your level and what was locked before reporting it. The progression guide explains what each path should unlock.

What about low FPS?

Reports differ. In the Steam discussion “low fps?”, one player reports staying under 80 FPS on an RTX 4070 and another 20–30 FPS on low settings, while some reviewers call performance good. Trapstar Games has not published performance guidance.

Compare your PC with the official requirements, then use the player preset and the one-change-at-a-time routine in the settings guide.

Where can you report a bug?

The patch notes ask players to report remaining bugs in the game’s Discord, and the Steam listing gives a support email. The developer page lists both routes and a caution about unofficial Discord invites.

Include the version number from the bottom-right corner of the menu, what you were doing and whether you were hosting the match.
